چکیده

We analyzed simultaneous observation data with ground-based synthetic aperture radar (GB-SAR) and airborne SAR (PiSAR) over a flood test site at which a simple house was constructed in a field. The PiSAR σ◦ under flood condition was 0.9 to 3.4 dB higher than that under nonflood condition. GB-SAR gives high spatial resolution as we could identify a single scattering component and a double bounce component from the house. GB-SAR showed that the σ◦ difference between the flooding and nonflooding conditions came from the double bounce scattering. We also confirm that the entropy is a sensitive parameter in the eigenvalue decomposition parameters, if the scattering process is dominated by the double bounce scattering. We conclude that σ◦ and entropy are a good parameter to be used to detect flooding, not only in agricultural and forest regions, but also in urban areas. We also conclude that GB-SAR is a powerful tool to supplement satellite and airborne observation, which has a relatively low spatial resolution.

Change Detection in Urban Area Using Decision Level Fusion of Change Maps Extracted from Optic and SAR Images

The last few decades witnessed high urban growth rates in many countries. Urban growth can be mapped and measured by using remote sensing data and techniques along with several statistical measures. The purpose of this research is to detect the urban change that is used for urban planning. Change detection using remote sensing images can be classified into three methods: algebra-based, transfor...

Pi-SAR-L2 Observation of the Landslide Caused by Typhoon Wipha on Izu Oshima Island

Pi-SAR-L2 full polarimetic data observed in four different observational directions over a landslide area on Izu Oshima Island, induced by Typhoon Wipha on 16 October 2013, were analyzed to clarify the most appropriate L-band full polarimetric parameters and observational direction to detect a landslide area. Japanese airborne Pi-SAR-L2 and PiSAR-L data were used in this analysis. Several L-ban...

Towards Change Detection in Urban Area by Sar Interferometry and Radargrammetry

Change detection in urban area is an active topic in remote sensing. However, well-dealt subject in optical remote sensing, this research topic is still at an early stage and needs deeper investigations and improvement in what concerns SAR and InSAR remote sensing. Due to their weather and daylight-independency, SAR sensors allow an all-time observation of the earth. This is determining in case...

Detection of flooded urban areas in high resolution Synthetic Aperture Radar images using double scattering

Flooding is a particular hazard in urban areas worldwide due to the increased risks to life and property in these regions. SAR sensors are often used to image flooding because of their all-weather day-night capability, and now possess sufficient resolution to image urban flooding. The flood extents extracted from the images may be used for flood relief management and improved urban flood inunda...
